  14. <p>     DIED. Margot Fonteyn, 71, legendary prima ballerina; of
  15. cancer; in Panama City. Born Margaret Hookham in Surrey,
  16. England, Fonteyn made her debut as a snowflake with the
  17. Vic-Wells Ballet (now known as the Royal Ballet) at 15 and
  18. distinguished herself in a 50-year career with a classical and
  19. graceful but passionate style. Memorable performances, such as
  20. The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Giselle and Romeo and Juliet,
  21. sustained unstinting critical and box-office success. In 1962,
  22. at 42, Dame Margot started a dynamic partnership with Rudolf
  23. Nureyev, who was 19 years younger. Formerly of the Kirov
  24. Ballet, he had defected from the Soviet Union in 1961. They
  25. danced together until the late 1970s. Said Nureyev: "For me she
  26. represents eternal youth."
